Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s marriage has once again been thrust into the public eye due to new information regarding their relationship.
During the summer of 2020, 29-year-old singer August Alsina disclosed that he’d previously had an affair with Pinkett Smith, 50,
which the married couple later acknowledged when they appeared together on her show, Red Table Talk, days thereafter.
Even though Pinkett Smith and Angela Alsina had an “entanglement” when their marriage was on hiatus, Smith revealed more about their romance with Alsina, revealing that she isn’t the only one who has dabbled in extramarital affairs.
When Smith and Pinkett Smith had a disagreement on the day of her 40th birthday, they realized they were “both miserable” and “obviously something had to change,” and so they decided to open their relationship to each other.
In response to the widespread belief that he was a patient husband who never cheated on his wife, Smith said: “Jada was never one to follow the rules of society, especially when it came to marriage. One of Jada’s family members had a strange relationship with another member of the family. In other words, she grew up in a totally different way from how I did.
“Intense debates raged over the topic of ‘What is relational perfection?’ What’s the best approach for a couple to communicate? And we chose monogamy throughout the majority of our relationship, not because we believed it was the only path to relationship perfection.”
The Focus actress went on to say: “Since everyone needs to pursue their own path,
we’ve given each other trust and independence. And we both understand that marriage cannot be a prison for either of us. And I’m not going to recommend our path to anyone. This is not a path I recommend to anyone.
Although the experiences we’ve shared, the freedoms we’ve granted one another, and the unconditional love we’ve shown one another…
A variety of situations and actions, including the 1997 wedding ceremony, led to Smith’s dissatisfaction with his marriage, according to his upcoming memoir, Will.
It was the first of many compromises Jada Pinkett Smith made over the years that severely undermined her own principles
because of her husband’s insistence on traditional marriage, the actor recalls in his upcoming book.
Years later, despite Pinkett Smith’s protests, Smith bought a 256-acre estate in Southern California despite her opposition.
No good comes from spending your hard-earned money on an unappealing “family house,” says Smith. “As a result of your decision, you will have to make annual payments on a house of suffering for years to come. It could be worse.”
While he was busy filming The Pursuit of Happyness with their son, Jaden Smith,
Smith’s burgeoning celebrity had an effect on Pinkett Smith’s own career as an actress and musician. She turned down the opportunity for her band, Wicked Wisdom, to open for Guns N’ Roses while her husband was busy filming.
When Will Smith surprised his wife Jada Pinkett Smith with a three-year-in-the-making bash in Santa Fe, New Mexico, tensions erupted.
With the money she earned from Girls Trip, Smith commissioned a documentary on her upbringing in the South and her family’s history of slavery. The film included interviews with Smith’s ancestors who were formerly owned by a white family.
