Fort Kent Warriors, the Northern Regional Class C champions, have a profile.
FORT KENT, ME (WAGM) – For the second time in four years, the Fort Kent Warriors have advanced to the State Championship game. The Warriors were a high-scoring team throughout the regular season, and they were able to pick up some hard-fought wins in the playoffs.
Collin Bennett: “Probably the nicest feeling I’ve experienced in my athletic career.” It was amazing to be able to grasp the plaque and have the medal placed around my neck.”
(Griffin Sibley): “It felt wonderful since our coach told us at the start of the season that we were contenders, and we didn’t really believe him.” As the season progressed, we realized we were legitimate competitors.”
(Keegan Cyr): “We honestly didn’t expect we’d make it this far, but as we got into the playoffs, we realized anything could happen, so we worked extremely hard.” (Austin Delisle): “That was a fantastic moment; it felt terrific.” Nobody expected us to be there, but we’re going to prove to everyone that we’re worthy of winning the title.”
This is Kalusha Kotes’ fourth year as the team’s coach. He guided the Warriors to a Regional championship in his first year, and he claims that numerous players on this year’s squad were freshmen on their previous trip to the State game.
“They’ve been with me for four years,” (Kalusha Kotes) says. They understand what it takes to go to the United States. They noticed it their freshman year and have been working on it for a few years, and now they are back in the state finals in their senior year.” The Warriors play aggressively from the start. Kotes claims that his college coach instilled in him the importance of playing hard from the start, something he has carried over to the Warriors.
“Coach Bill Ashby,” says Kotes. I’ve always felt a connection to him and the lessons he taught us. I told the men about it and showed them that once you start the game, you should start as soon as the whistle sounds.”

Because they are playing on County soil, Fort Kent should have a sizable crowd base tomorrow.
“We will have a lot more help from the County,” Bennett says. I’m excited to watch it.”
Cyr: “A lot of people, hopefully our whole school will be there.” We’ve been working all week to get as many people as possible there, and performing in the County is a lot of fun.” The Warriors have a long history of success on the soccer field. This is their fourth trip to the United States since 2009, and they are excited to continue the warriors’ winning history.
“We just have very excellent dynamics on attack, and we pass the ball wonderfully, and we play from the back, and we do that effectively,” Sibley says.
Delisle: “We’re ready, we’re ready.” We may be underdogs, but we will prove to some that we have a place in the State game.”
