Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have agreed to a six-year contract extension that will keep him with the club until 2028, according to the team’s announcement on Friday.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, who claimed on Inside Training Camp Live that the overall value of the contract is $258 million, it will average $43 million per year, with more than half of the money guaranteed. Allen gets a total guarantee of $150 million and a complete guarantee of $100 million upon signing, both of which are the biggest in NFL history.
Allen’s new blockbuster contract was subsequently revealed by the Bills.

“Josh has been all we could ask for and more, and we believe the best is yet to come,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane said during a press conference on Friday evening.
During his own news conference, Allen expressed his thanks for the agreement and the perspective that comes with it.
“Being in this location right now is strange. I’m simply grateful that we were able to complete it, “he said.” Now we can concentrate on earning it and ensuring that they realize that I am aware that they did not compensate me for my efforts. They did this because they expected me to keep doing what I’m doing and win some titles for this squad.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us. I understand, and I’m just looking forward to putting everything behind me and concentrating on football.
Allen’s new contract offers him the second-highest overall value in the NFL, behind Patrick Mahomes’ $450 million deal, and is second only to Mahomes in terms of average per year.
After a stellar 2020 season in which he led the team to the AFC Championship Game while setting numerous single-season club passing records and finished runner-up for AP NFL Most Valuable Player, the club had already picked up Allen’s fifth-year option.
Allen threw for 4,544 yards and 37 touchdowns as the Bills won the AFC East with a 13-3 record during the regular season.
Allen’s play improved dramatically from his first season in 2018, when his proclivity for giveaways was a significant issue.
Allen’s progress has been consistent, especially in terms of completion %, which has increased from 52.8 in 2018 to 58.8 in 2019 to 69.2 last year. His throwing touchdown output has increased year after year as well (10-20-37).
The Bills are also getting one of the greatest rushing quarterbacks in the NFL. Only three quarterbacks have rushed for 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns in their first three NFL seasons: Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Cam Newton.
Beane stated a few days ago that if a new contract could not be reached before the start of the season, both the team and Allen were willing to put the talks on hold. But there will be no pause now.
The Bills kick off their season on September 12 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
