A $92 million settlement has been suggested in the TikTok class action.
If you or your young children used the TikTok or Musical.ly apps, you may be eligible for compensation as part of a class-action lawsuit settlement.
A proposed $92 million settlement is pending in the TikTok, Inc., Consumer Privacy Litigation, a lawsuit alleging the company “violated federal and state law by collecting and using” personal data “in connection with their use of the TikTok—Make Your Day video-sharing application” and its predecessor app Musical.ly.
According to records, TikTok rejects the charges, and the deal with Chinese parent firm ByteDance was reached in late February. However, TikTok sent a settlement notification in the app on Monday, sending users to Tiktokdataprivacysettlement.com.
TikTok is recognized for its short films with a humorous tone. The app has been popular among young people, particularly Generation Z. According to an April Pew Research Center survey, around 48 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds use TikTok.
TikTok revealed in September that it reached one billion users worldwide. The software, which is owned by the Chinese corporation ByteDance, has been the subject of some controversy, most notably for its impact on the body image of adolescent females.

TikTok was accused of violating the Illinois biometric privacy legislation, which authorizes lawsuits against firms that gather customer data without authorization, including via face and fingerprint scanning, according to the federal complaint. Only Illinois has a legislation that permits persons to sue for monetary damages for such unlawful data acquisition.
TikTok compensation: How to File a Claim
To be eligible for money, you must have used the app by September 30 and submit a claim form by March 1, 2022, according to court filings. Minors’ claims may be submitted by parents.
Documents suggest that folks who reside in Illinois and have used TikTok to generate videos may be entitled to six times the cash.
The paperwork may be filled out online at Tiktokdataprivacysettlement.com or printed and sent in.
The settlement provides four options for obtaining the payout:

TikTok litigation deadlines
Jan. 31: Deadline to object to the settlement and notify the court you don’t like it, as well as the final day to be excluded from the settlement, which means you won’t get any benefits.
The deadline for submitting a claim and receiving payment is March 1. If the settlement is approved by the court and becomes final and effective, “you will receive your money by electronic means (unless you choose an other mode of payment).”
