Two people have been confirmed deceased as rescuers seek for employees trapped in an Amazon warehouse damaged by storms.
Local police said at least two employees were killed when an Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) warehouse collapsed outside St. Louis late Friday after tornadoes and heavy storms ripped across the region.
Several individuals were unaccounted for as rescuers urgently sought for employees who could be trapped in the Edwardsville, Illinois, business, according to Police Chief Mike Fillback. He estimated that roughly 50 people were in the warehouse when it was struck by an extreme ”

” about 8:30 p.m. Friday.
According to Fillback, at least 30 personnel were transferred by bus from the area, and more may have fled on their own. Because the warehouse did not have “a fixed crew,” he claimed it was impossible to determine a precise number of employees who may be missing.
Drone video from the event showed rescue personnel working their way through a massive expanse of wreckage in the pre-dawn darkness.

Sarah Bierman, a lady standing outside, expressed concern for her husband, who works in the warehouse.
“I spoke to him at eight o’clock tonight, just before I texted him, and he was returning to the warehouse to drop off his vehicle,” she told a reporter.
“Because I haven’t heard from him since; I just learned about him from the news, and we live in Edwardsville; we lost electricity.” So I came down here to check what was going on, and I had no idea the structure was in such horrible shape. “And I’m simply worried sick,” she said.
According to an Amazon spokeswoman, the firm is collaborating with first responders on the site.
“We’re extremely sorry by the news that members of our Amazon family were killed in the storm,” stated spokesman Kelly Natel. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims, their loved ones, and everyone else affected by the disaster.” We would also want to thank the first responders for their continuous efforts on the site.
“My thoughts are with the residents of Edwardsville tonight,” Illinois Governor JB Pritzker tweeted. “I’ve reached out to the mayor to give any required state assistance.”
On Friday night, the National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for six states, including Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, and Illinois.
