Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels is being evaluated by head coach Herm Edwards.
After Friday night’s 28-10 victory over the Stanford Cardinals, the Arizona State Sun Devils are now 5-1. For 175 yards passing and one touchdown rushing, quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 14 of 23 throws in the win. Daniels completed 70.1% of his passes for 1,269 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions during the course of the season. He’s rushed for 369 yards and three touchdowns.
Arizona State’s Herm Edwards addressed the improvement of his quarterback during the season after the game.
This is still with Johnny out, but he’ll be back,” Edwards said, according to Sun Devil Source. “He’s getting more comfortable with the receivers now,” Edwards added. The receivers performed a good job, but I thought the quarterbacks did a better job. However, I think explosive plays are starting to appear more frequently now that (sophomore wide receiver) Ricky (Pearsall) was upset about the one he let go over there.
One minute, Elijhah Badger is a freshman wide receiver. I’m at a loss for words. “I know,” I mumbled under my breath as he turned to face him. After two possessions, you scored two touchdowns. ‘We handed you the ball twice. Despite this, he had yet to score a touchdown on a catch. Instead, he had scored on the ground.
Daniels was a four-star recruit out of San Bernadino (Calif.) Cajon before attending Arizona State. In the 2019 recruiting class, he was the No. 35 overall prospect and the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback.
After a 5-1 start, Edwards discussed the Sun Devils’ program’s current position. BYU was the only team the Sun Devils lost to this season.
“What’s with asking about the program so much? You two seem to be discussing it, “Edwards made the statement. “As a program, I’m not sure where we stand. We’ve got a 5-1 lead. Plenty more football is left to be played. It’s always a challenge to take on a club from the Pac-12. It’s a challenge. The Pac-12 is notorious for being a difficult conference to win in. There’s no denying it. Anyone from the South or North can play in this game because it’s just football.
The football season is in full swing, and we’re a perfect 5-1. You folks are free to make up your own minds about who we are. That isn’t something I will decide. Football is all there is to it. We’re only looking to improve our record yet again. We’ll strive to win another game next week. If we win, feel free to bring up the subject once more. The answer is the same for me as it is for you.
It’s all up to you two. That’s not something I get to decide. When you start using phrases like “my program this,” you’re asking for trouble. It’s all about the victories. It’s good for everyone if you win. If you don’t win, expect more bad things to happen to you.
Utah will be the opponent for Arizona State’s rematch the following week. They still have six games left in the regular season.
