As a result of the Chelsea-Villarreal score, the Blues won the UEFA Super Cup. In a penalty shootout, Kepa excels.
Chelsea FC won the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, defeating Villarreal CF 6-5 in a penalty shootout at Windsor Park in Belfast, to kick off the 2021-22 European season. At the conclusion of 90 minutes and extra time, the two teams were deadlocked at 1-1.
The Blues took the lead in the first half as Hakim Ziyech scored in the 27th minute. However, Ziyech was replaced in the first half due to a shoulder injury, and American Christian Pulisic took his place.
Gerard Moreno equalized for Villarreal in the 73rd minute, after several crossbar and post-rattling misses for the La Liga side.

Thomas Tuchel’s side won 6-5 on penalties, but the Chelsea manager made an unexpected move at the conclusion of the second session of extra time. Tuchel replaced starter Edouard Mendy with backup goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Tuchel’s decision, like most of his in 2021, paid off. Kepa saved two kicks, including one from Raul Albiol, to seal the win. The Blues scored six consecutive penalty kicks after Kai Havertz missed the first. Pulisic, Mason Mount, and Antonio Rudiger were among the successful penalty takers.
Unai Emery, a four-time champion of the UEFA Europa League, is still without a Super Cup trophy after losing all three times to Sevilla.
