While Carlile had previously dazzled at the event, her most recent performance displayed not just her vocals but also her piano and guitar talents. Despite the spectacular stage set-up, which included a pyramid of lights that changed from a mellow yellow glow to rainbow hues, Carlile’s voice remained the focus of attention. Even the live crowd applauded as she landed some of the most difficult notes.
This year, she was nominated for five awards, including best Americana roots performance for “Same Devil,” best pop solo performance, record, and song of the year for “Right on Time,” and song of the year for her duet with Alicia Keys, “A Beautiful Noise.”
Carlile did a pre-Grammy gig in Los Angeles in 2020, dazzling the sold-out audience with favorites including “The Story,” “Party of One,” and “The Mother.”
