So my buddy and I simply raced inside, “said Kai Bowman, a fourth-year student.
Massive search operations were subsequently launched when a man matching the suspect’s description was discovered on Riverside Drive near Bridgewater, off campus.

The suspect, Alexander Wyatt Campbell, 27, of Ashland, waded across the river to an island, according to police.
That’s where the cops apprehended him.
According to police, Campbell was rushed to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The VSP is investigating whether he was shot by police or suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Multiple guns linked to Campbell were seized as evidence, according to authorities.
Campbell has been charged with two counts of capital murder, one crime of first-degree murder, and one count of criminal use of a firearm.
He is being held without bail at the Rockingham County Jail.

His standing with regard to Bridgewater College was not discussed by police.

In an email to students and faculty, Bridgewater College President David Bushman wrote, “Words are not enough, not even close to adequate, to communicate the loss, anguish, terror, and—justifiably—the fury we all feel.”
According to Bushman, Painter and Johnson, the two cops slain, were close friends.
These cops were good friends, dubbed the “dynamic pair” by many of us.

Students, educators, and staff all adored them.

“They were absolutely nice and inviting folks,” Bowman recalled, “and the idea that this occurred today for no apparent reason is just outrageous.”
The university community was ordered to stay put for many hours, but the order was withdrawn just after 4:30 p.m.
Bridgewater also tweeted during the shelter-in-place to not be scared since police were passing through the buildings and to follow their directions.
The problem has been presented to Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares, who are continuing to watch it.
“For Bridgewater College, it is a sad and terrible day.
I’m sure we all have a lot of questions and few answers.
One thing I am certain of is that as we go ahead from today, we will gather around one another and support one another.
“We are all victims, though some are more so than others, and it is critical that we individually seek solace and support in the ways that are most relevant to us,” Bushman said to students in an email.
The inquiry is being assisted by a number of law enforcement authorities.
According to police, this is an isolated incident based on the evidence.
Virginia State Police are asking anybody with information on the incident to email them at vsphtcs@vsp.virginia.gov.
