Silk Sonic dominated the Grammy Awards in 2022, winning all four categories in which they were nominated, including Record of the Year.
After a performance by H.E.R., Lenny Kravitz, and Travis Barker, Keith Urban was suddenly dumbfounded as he presented the trophy to the superduo known as Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak at the beginning of the third hour of the program. The two danced their way to the stage to the beat of their winning song, “Leave the Door Open.”

Paak may have been apprehensive about upsetting Billie Ellish and Tony Bennett, who would have made history if they’d won Record of the Year (an honor that recognizes the artist’s performance as well as the producers, recording engineers, mixers, and mastering engineers who worked on it).
Eillish would have won the prize for the third year in a row, making her the first person to do so – and the first artist to win it three times without being accompanied. (She won the prize earlier for “Everything I Wanted” and “Bad Guy.”) If his duet with Lady Gaga, “I Get a Kick Out of You,” had won, Bennett would have been the oldest winner of the prize.
