Caldor Fire jumps highway amid evacuation order, scorches its way toward pristine Lake Tahoe
LAKE SOUTH TAHOE, CAROLINA – The Caldor Fire, which is threatening beautiful Lake Tahoe, expanded overnight after crossing a roadway and forcing a major evacuation of the lakeside town, according to fire authorities.
The Caldor Fire is burning its way into South Lake Tahoe
where people hurriedly fled east on Highway 50 toward Nevada in the face of an evacuation order on Monday.
The wildfire in a region south of South Lake Tahoe grew to almost 300 square miles on Tuesday, according to the California Department of
Forestry and Fire Protection. The fire, start on August 14, is just 16% control.
