U.S. Women’s Basketball Team Captures Seventh Straight Gold With Win Over Japan
head coach Dawn Staley said that she would not be the one to guide the team to an eighth.
Following Team USA’s 90–75 gold-medal ‘victory against Japan’ in’ Sunday’s gold-medal game’,
Staley confirmed that she would not coach the team at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Along with Anne Donovan, Staley became the first Black U.S. women’s basketball coach and the 2n woman
to earn a gold medal’ as a ‘player, assistant, and head coach ‘. South Carolina’s coach previously won ‘3
Olympic gold medals as a player in (1996 and 2000, and 2004), as well as 2 as an assistant head coach, one
for ‘Donovan’ in 2008 and one for ‘Geno Auriemma’ in 2016.
Staley told USA Today’s Dan Wolken, “Our nation has a lot of outstanding coaches that can get the job
done.” “Being a member of, I think, six is enough for me.” “I’m full, I’m full,” she says.
Since taking over as national team coach in 2017, Staley has a 45–0 record.
Staley informed the Star Tribune that she would suggest Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve, who is also one of Staley’s assistant coaches, take her position.
Bale is back in action for Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly against AC Milan, wearing the number 50.
“Cheryl has been a part of our team for a long time and has been an assistant coach for a long time,”
Staley added. “She is capable of handling this role, and she will demand and compel respect from the
players.”
“She is unrivaled in terms of what she can offer to the table. So she’d receive my approval without a
doubt.”
Carol Callan’s time as national team director came to an end with the gold medal final.
Since the commencement of the seven-gold-medal streak in Atlanta in 1996, Callan has been in charge.
One tale, though, may be able to make it to Paris. Diana Taurasi, 39, stunned everyone with her postgame
comments after becoming the first basketball player to win five Olympic gold medals with Sue Bird.
Taurasi said, “See you in Paris.”
