Comedian Anthony Johnson of ‘Friday’ and ‘House Party’ dies at 55
Anthony Johnson, the actor and comedian who starred in the films “Friday” and “House Party,” has died. He was 55 years old at the time.
Johnson’s publicist, Lynea Bell, described him as an “iconic figure of theatre and film.” His death date and cause of death were not disclosed.
“The universe of comedy has been shattered once more,” Bell remarked. “He has left us with incredible memories of his laughter, dynamic acting abilities, and, most importantly, his huge personality and golden heart.”
Johnson, who was also known by his stage as A.J. Johnson, played E.Z.E. in the 1990 film “House Party” and Ezal in the 1995 Ice Cube-Chris Tucker classic “Friday.”

On Twitter, Ice Cube paid homage to the actor and comedian.
“I was saddened to learn about AJ Johnson’s death this morning. He was a naturally hilarious guy who looked like he came right out of Compton at the same time. He tweeted, “Sorry I couldn’t bring your character Ezal back to the big screen in ‘Last Friday,'” alluding to the planned fourth installment in the “Friday” series.
Johnson’s other acting credits include “Menace II Society” from 1993, “B*A*P*S*” from 1997, “I Got the Hook-Up” from 1998, and “The Jamie Foxx Show” from 1997.
Tommy “Tiny” Lister, who portrayed neighborhood bully and criminal Deebo, died in December at the age of 62, less than a year after his “Friday” co-star died.
