Unlike phone launches when the design of a new phone is revealed, we already know what the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro look like. Both phones will have a camera bar on the back and will be available in a choice of pastel and metallic hues. When both Pixel 6 phones were first teased in August, we learnt they will use Google’s in-house Tensor system-on-chip. The internal move may be inspired by how Apple builds its own processors for the iPhone series, allowing Google to further personalise and support the Pixel phone.
The Pixel’s camera specifications have not yet been revealed, but Google has revealed that both phones include a new sensor that captures 150 percent more light than the Pixel 5, as well as an ultrawide lens. The Pixel 6 Pro’s camera will be improved with the addition of a telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom.
The Tensor processor will also enable software photography enhancements, such as correcting blurry images by merging components from numerous shots into a single image, and will allow the phone to perform jobs that need artificial intelligence. Improved speech recognition, dictation that distinguishes between texts and voice commands, and live translations that integrate Google’s current Live Caption and Interpreter modes are examples of the latter.
Despite these hints, there are still a slew of Pixel 6 rumours floating around, which the Oct. 19 event will presumably address. Aside from the phone’s debut date and cost, they include a probable 50-megapixel wide camera, a Pixel stand with 23-watt wireless charging, and a Pixel Pass subscription that would allegedly package phone financing with Google’s services such as YouTube Premium. This fourth option may compete with Apple’s One subscription bundles, while also containing the cost of the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, and would be akin to Microsoft’s Xbox All Access subscription, which includes a gaming console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
