The complete list of nominees for the 64th Grammy Awards will be published soon. Who will be nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and other awards? Keep an eye on the livestream below and check back for updates on the newest happenings. The 2022 Grammy Awards will be held on Monday, January 31, in Los Angeles, and will be televised live on CBS.
Since the 2021 Grammys, a lot of changes have occurred within the Recording Academy and its management of the Grammys. In April, the organisation announced the termination of its tradition of secret-committee nominations in the Big Four categories, as well as the creation of two new prizes for Msica Urbana Album and Global Music Performance. The Recording Academy amended its book of rules and standards during the summer to prohibit the inclusion of sales data and chart numbers in “For Your Consideration” advertisements as well. For the first time, the ceremony will contain an inclusion rider after widening its voting pool to include more voters from “traditionally underrepresented groups.”
The Grammys are in their first year under new Recording Academy President and CEO Harvey Mason jr., who has been serving in the post on an interim basis. He took over after the resignation of previous Grammy head Deborah Dugan, who was put on administrative leave two days before the 2020 Grammy Awards. This July, the Recording Academy and Dugan announced a settlement after a legal disagreement.
With her Best R&B Performance triumph for “Black Parade” last year, Beyoncé established a new record for the most Grammys won by a female artist. Following the announcement of the 2021 nominees, The Weeknd stated his desire to boycott the Grammys in the future when After Hours and “Blinding Lights” garnered no nominations.
Taylor Swift indicated ahead of today’s announcement that she will not submit Fearless (Taylor’s Version) for consideration, instead concentrating on a campaign for Evermore. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s 2020 song “WAP” was originally barred from contention for the 2021 Grammys; plans intended for it to be submitted for the 2022 Grammys with a Cardi B album that never materialised. In other nomination news, Kacey Musgraves’ Star-Crossed has been found ineligible for nomination in country categories; nonetheless, the album’s “Camera Roll” has been nominated in two country categories.
