In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sora will be the last character to take on Yoshi.
A few weeks ago, during the Nintendo Direct broadcast, people speculated on who the final “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” character would be. Rather, Chris Pratt will portray Mario in a feature film, as we learned from the actor.
Game designer Masahiro Sakurai confirmed today in Nintendo’s final “Mr. Sakurai Presents” livestream that Sora from the “Kingdom Hearts” series will be the final fighter to be added to “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” The “Kingdom Hearts” games, which debuted in 2002 with Disney and Pixar characters, have become worldwide hits. The series’ protagonist, Sora, wields a keyblade, but from it hangs a chain with the Mickey Mouse insignia. Despite the fact that Sora is a beloved video game character, some may find it strange to see a Mickey Mouse shape next to Mario and Pikachu. The Hollow Bastion, a castle from the “Kingdom Hearts” games,is a new stage for Sora, who has nine songs to his credit.
In the beloved game, which was launched on the Nintendo Switch in December 2018, this is the 82nd playable character. The new Mii costume for “Doom” allows players to pretend to be the “Doom Slayer.” Other Mii costumes include those from “Splatoon.”
Six years ago, when “Super Smash Bros.” for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U launched a ballot allowing fans to vote on which characters they wanted in “Smash,” Sakurai noted in the Livestream that the most requested new fighter was Sora. According to the game’s director, Sora will be a more approachable character for newcomers to the fighting genre.
The Fighters Pass Vol. 2 expansion, which includes Sora, will be released for $29.99 on October 18. However, individual expansion characters can be added to the game for $5.99 each. Other characters include Kazuya Mishima and Min Min from “Arms,”
as well as characters from “Minecraft,” “Final Fantasy 7,” “Xenoblade Chronicles 2,” and “Tekken.”
The developer Sakurai hinted at remasters of “Kingdom Hearts” games for other platforms coming to the Nintendo Switch at the end of the webcast. Among the titles available are “Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix,” “Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue,” and “Kingdom Hearts III.”These games have yet to see a release date.
