Ivy Getty, the oil heiress, marries in San Francisco wearing a mirrored Margiela wedding gown.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi conducted the event, while actress Anya Taylor-Joy served as maid of honour.
Isabella Love Getty, the great-granddaughter of oil mogul J. Paul Getty and one of his billion-dollar heiresses, married photographer Tobias Engel in San Francisco over the weekend in a one-of-a-kind reflecting bridal gown.
The 26-year-old model and artist donned an unique garment created by John Galliano for Maison Margiela Haute Couture, which consisted of four layers covered with shattered mirror fragments to create a flowery theme. “A large portion of the garment is made of genuine mirror,” Galliano told Vogue. “However, since she had to walk in it, we devised a material that looks like a genuine mirror but weighs a lot less.” Her veil was embroidered with walnuts to remember her late grandmother Ann, who lived up on a walnut farm, and guitars to honour her late father, John Gilbert, a musician who died last year. Getty revealed that she picked Galliano for her wedding because her grandmother was a tremendous fan of his work, having purchased his designs for Givenchy and Christian Dior. “My grandma always wore John Galliano’s designs,” the bride told the magazine. My grandmother had always adored him, so it seemed as though she was right there with me through it all. I felt this connection to John when my grandma died—she was more like a mother to me. I knew I wanted him to design my wedding gown. My aunt Vanessa, with whom I am extremely close, was introduced to him by a friend, and here we are.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi oversaw the wedding, which took place at San Francisco’s City Hall, with actress Anya Taylor-Joy acting as maid of honour. California Governor Gavin Newsom, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, Princess Olympia of Greece, designer Wes Gordon, Mimi Wade, Vogue’s international editor at large Hamish Bowles, British TV personality Fletcher Cowan, and director Christian Coppola were among the other notable attendees. A “British Invasion Mod“-themed pre-wedding party was also held in the Palace of Fine Arts, with attendees dressed in their best ’60s attire for a night DJed by Mark Ronson and featuring a performance by Earth, Wind & Fire. Getty donned three separate vintage ensembles by designers Emanuel Ungaro, Emilio Pucci, and Norman Norell to that occasion. The following day, the newlyweds had a picnic at the Log Cabin on Presidio, where guests were given IV drips to assist them recover from their hangovers.
Engel initially met the heiress via a family friend, and they reunited a year later during Paris Fashion Week. The pair has travelled often during their relationship, and on one of these excursions to Capri, Engel decided to propose. “Normally, I choose where we dine out, but Toby insisted on choosing this time.” This did not trigger any warning signals, but when I arrived to the restaurant, I thought to myself, ‘Oh, he really planned this,'” Getty added. “We had a table separate from the rest of the restaurant that overlooked the whole island.” We ordered our meal once the waitress arrived. We walked outdoors to photograph the sun as it was about to set. Toby set a timer on his iPhone and went down on one knee. The timer went off at just the right moment, and we now have the most wonderful photograph.” The model’s engagement ring is a sapphire set on a yellow gold band surrounded by diamonds from a necklace her grandmother gave her when she was a teen. “It’s the most one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery, and it’s really personal to me,” she added. “Every time I glance down and see it, I can’t help but grin!”
