Reactions to Jesse Watters’ “kill shot” statements have been mixed.
Dr. Anthony Fauci slammed Fox News Channel’s Jesse Watters for making “crazy” threats against him, stating on Tuesday that Watters “should be fired on the spot.”
In an interview on CNN’s “New Day,” Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease specialist, replied to statements Watters made over the weekend to the conservative, pro-Trump youth organization Turning Point USA.
Watters, a right-wing agitator, instructed the group to “ambush” Fauci on the streets and film a metaphorical “kill shot.”
“That’s a disaster. That is, after all, a reflection of the crazy that exists in society “Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci stated. “The only thing I’ve ever done in the last two years is urge people to exercise good public health practises, such as being vaccinated, being cautious in public places, and wearing a mask, and for that you have this person out there screaming that people should give me a death shot, to ambush me?”
Watters attempted to link Fauci to crazy conspiracy theories linking him to claims of biowarfare in his statements to the far-right youth organisation.
“Now you’re going for the kill shot,” says the narrator. Watters informed the gathering, “The kill shot with an ambush [is] lethal because he doesn’t see it coming.”
“This is the point at which you say, ‘Dr. Fauci, you financed dangerous research in a shoddy Chinese facility.’ The same lab that unleashed the global epidemic. Don’t you understand why people don’t trust you?’ He’s no longer alive! He’s no longer alive! He’s finished!”

Watters’ statements were not shown by the CNN interviewer because he feared they might instigate violence.
According to Fauci, “What type of madness is there these days in society? That was a terrible thing for him to say. And he’ll most likely disappear without a trace. I mean, he’s not going to accomplish anything on whatever network he’s on…. That’s insane, to say the least. The person ought to be dismissed right now.”
Fauci’s prediction came true when a Fox News Channel spokesman defended Watters’ inflammatory remarks.
“It’s clear from watching the entire clip and reading the entire transcript that Jesse Watters was using a metaphor for asking Dr. Fauci tough questions about gain-of-function research, and his words have been completely twisted out of context, “According to a statement released by Fox News on Tuesday.
Far-right groups despise Fauci, who they see as a symbol of government attempts to contain the Covid-19 epidemic, which has killed more than 810,000 people in the United States.
