Jets DE Carl Lawson Will Miss Season with Ruptured Achilles
During the Jets’ practice with the Packers on Thursday, four players were injured.
DE Carl Lawson, who tore his Achilles tendon and had a damaged
MCL, and S Zane Lewis, who tore his patella tendon and suffered a sprained MCL, will both miss the 2021 season.
Carl Lawson signed with the Jets in the offseason
after four seasons in Cincinnati, where he has 30 career sacks in 51 games. Last season, he topped all defensive linemen with 32 quarterback hits, and his 54 hits over the last two seasons are second only to Joey Bosa of the Chargers among D-linemen.
On a pass play, Lawson came around the edge and made his way
past LT Elgton Jenkins before falling to the ground.
Carl Lawson was taken off the field and did not return
after many teammates and Packers players gathered around him.
For the rest of practice, Bryce Huff, who got a sack in last week’s
preseason game against the Giants, lined up in Lawson’s place.
Lewis, a first-year Air Force product, was transitioning from cornerback to safety this summer.
DT Sheldon Rankins (knee) and WR Denzel Mims (hip) are both day-to-day with minor injuries.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady performed the whole season with torn MCL
