Joe Manchin: The Question of Whether Biden or Manchin is the “Real President” did not sit well with Kamala Harris.
When Charlamagne tha God questioned if Joe Biden or Sen. Joe Manchin is the president of the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris did not disguise her displeasure. “So, is Joe Manchin or Joe Biden the true president of this country?” On Comedy Central’s Tha God’s Honest Truth, Charlamagne questioned Harris. “Come on, Charlamagne,” says the king. “Come on, Joe Biden,” Harris told the late-night talk show host. “I can’t tell sometimes,” Charlamagne said before Harris cut him off as the interview became increasingly contentious. “No, no, Joe Biden is on the line. Joe Biden is on the line. And don’t start questioning whether he’s president like a Republican; my name is Joe Biden, and I’m the vice president. “My name is Kamala Harris,” she introduced herself.
Harris went on to outline a number of the Biden administration’s successes. “The truth is, because we are in office, we do things like the child tax credit, which is going to cut Black kid poverty by 50%,” Harris added, before going on to list other topics the White House is working on, such as removing lead from pipes and decreasing prescription medication prices. “OK, I get the dissatisfaction,” Harris said, “but let’s not dismiss the impact we’ve made.”
A Harris aide, most likely her main spokesperson Symone Sanders, appeared to want to cut short the interview when she was asked who the “true president” was just before that exchange. “Somebody needs to push back on Joe Manchin,” Charlamagne urged to Harris, adding, “we need you to be the superhero who rescues democracy.” While some on social media are portraying the conversation as if the Harris assistant didn’t want the vice president to answer the question, the fact is that she had been attempting to end the interview for many minutes.
When Charlamagne earlier posed a question on student loans, the assistant indicated it would be “the final question” (at the 15:30 mark in the video below). However, Charlamagne continued the debate by accusing Manchin of “halting development” and “ruining democracy.” Harris didn’t address Manchin explicitly, but Charlamagne pressed: “Who is the superhero who is going to come up against Joe Manchin?” The off-camera speaker reappeared, ostensibly attempting to stop the interview. “I’d like to know who this country’s genuine president is.” “Is it Joe Biden or Joe Manchin?” you might wonder. Charlamagne was adamant. “It’s Symone, I’m very sorry Charlamagne,” the voice said plainly before Harris could respond. “We need to wrap up.” Harris went on to address the question after a brief interlude of banter.
