Lionel Messi makes PSG debut as sub for Neymar in Ligue 1 game against Reims
Leo Messi made his Psg débu
t as a second-half replacement in a 2-0 win at Ligue 1 club Reims on Sunday.
In the 66th minutes, Pochettino substituted Messi’s friend and former Barca colleague Neymar with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.
It was Messi’s first game for a team other than Barcelona.
Just before Messi made his debut, Kylian Mbappe scored his second goal of the game, sliding onto Achraf
Hakimi’s cross. He scored his first goal in the 16th minute, a header assisted by Angel di Maria.
Mbappe’s future at the club is in danger as the transfer deadline approaches. Real Madrid made a second offer
for PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, worth up to €180 million (£154.4 million), and the two clubs are now discussing a deal, but no deal has been achieved.
When he joined PSG
Messi said that he was anxious to play, but that he would do so only when he and the coaching staff felt he was ready.
He hasn’t played since Argentina’s Copa America victory
but he’s been training with PSG full-time.
The Argentine completed a free move earlier this month when his contract with Barcelona expired, in what was one of the summer’s most unexpected deals.
The 34-year-old is reported to have agreed to a €25 million signing bonus and a two-year contract worth €25 million each year in net compensation.
The contract includes a third year at the same price.
He’ll wear the No. 30 jersey for the first time, which he wore in Barcelona.
PSG’s starting XI for the match was Navas, Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kehrer, Diallo, Wijnaldum, Gueye, Verratti, Di Maria, Mbappe, and Neymar.
