It was a remarkable comeback for the to luis garcia, who began, who began Game 2 and gave up a grand slam in the first inning before exiting with no outs in the second inning due to right knee soreness.
A year after watching from home as the Astros fell one game short of reaching the World Series following surgery on both knees, Alvarez resumed his scorching run. With four hits, including a triple and two doubles, the slugging designated hitter led the team. With three singles and three RBIs, he guided the team to a Game 5 victory.
With Houston leading 2-0, catcher Martn Maldonado produced the defensive play of the game with a strikeout-throwout double play to end the eighth.
Baker, 72, will be making his second appearance in the Fall Classic as a manager, and his first since guiding the San Francisco Giants to the National League pennant in 2002. He made three visits to the World Series with the Dodgers, winning it all in 1981.
Boston’s greatest scoring opportunity came in the eighth inning.
After Alex Verdugo’s single, they had runners at first and third with one out. However, pinch-hitter Travis Shaw was struck out, and Maldonado made a great throw to Carlos Correa, who was covering second base, to beat Verdugo to the plate and finish the inning.
To the delight of the 42,718-strong audience, Maldonado raised his hands in joy, while Graveman and Correa also pumped their fists in happiness.

The Astros, boosted by their youthful pitchers and newfound offence, won the following two games by a combined score of 18-3, putting them one victory away from a World Series appearance. The rest was left to their budding 24-year-old stars, Garca and Alvarez.
Houston had a chance to extend the advantage in the fourth
inning when Bregman singled and was stranded at third base with no outs after another double by Alvarez. However, once Nathan Eovaldi worked his way out of the bottleneck, they came up empty.
In the sixth inning, Alvarez tripled with no outs to chase Josh Taylor, and Tanner Houck plunked Correa. Tucker then hit a grounder to first baseman Kyle Schwarber, who tagged Correa for an unassisted double play with Alvarez sliding safely in to make it 2-0.
Eovaldi earned the win in Game 2 after a strong start, but he was tagged with the loss in Game 4 after giving up the game-winning runs in the ninth inning after coming in with the game tied.
On Friday, he gave up five hits and one run in a loss to the Red Sox in a postseason game in which he began for the first time after being 5-0 in his other games.
Garca is the only pitcher to carry a no-hitter into the sixth inning of a possible postseason decider since Noah Syndergaard of the Mets got two outs in the sixth inning of the 2016 NL wild-card game against the Giants.
Garca walked Verdugo with one out in the second inning after allowing Schwarber to base on a wild pitch following a strikeout in the first. After that, he settled in, retiring the next 13 batters with five strikeouts, until Hernández got Boston’s first hit in the sixth inning on a triple with two outs.
