Manchester United complete Raphael Varane signing.
Manchester United has completed the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in a £34 million deal.
The Athletic reported the deal had been pushed through earlier on Saturday and United have now confirmed it.
The center-back has signed a four-year deal, having spent 10 seasons in Madrid.
It has been 18 days since a fee was agreed with Real Madrid for Varane — an initial £34 million-plus add-ons —
but the complexities of a major transfer plus the need for a period of quarantine have added time to
proceedings.
Varane said: “Manchester United is one of the most iconic clubs in world football and the chance to come here
and play in the Premier League is something I couldn’t turn down.
“There is a lot more that I want to achieve in my career and I know I’m joining a squad full of great players who
will all have the same determination to win matches and trophies. Having spoken to the manager I can see how
“I want to make an impact here and I will give everything to become part of this club’s illustrious history.”
At Euro 2020
At Euro 2020, Varane made four appearances for reigning world champions France, who were knocked out in the
round of 16 by Switzerland on penalties. He was also a pivotal figure in France’s triumphant 2018 World Cup side,
starting all seven games in the tournament and playing every minute.
He joins a United side who finished second in the Premier League last season and lost the Europa League final on
penalties to Villarreal. They have already signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and former player Tom
Heaton a senior addition this summer.
