With executive producer Mike Richards and actress mayim bialik and partner
was chosen as hosts of the long-running game show, a new age of “Jeopardy!” is on the horizon.
Richards was named full-time presenter of the syndicated “Jeopardy!” broadcasts on Wednesday, while Bialik will host special versions of the show.
“We are thrilled to kick off the next chapter of America’s Favorite Quiz Show with Mike presenting our daily show and Mayim hosting new Jeopardy!”
stated Sony Pictures’ Ravi Ahuja.
“This was a really difficult choice for us to make. It took a great lot of thought and consideration,
maybe more than any other pick of hosts for a show — and rightly so, since it’s Jeopardy!
We’re following Alex Trebek, the incomparable.”
Since veteran “Jeopardy!” presenter Alex Trebek died last November at the age of 80 after a battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, guest hosts have been stepping in.
Bialik will host prime-time specials and spinoffs of the game show under the new arrangement.
This will feature the “Jeopardy! National College Championship” next year.
Bialik, 45, is a four-time Emmy nominee for her performance on “The Big Bang Theory” as Amy Farrah Fowler.
She also had a recurring role in the comedy “Call Me Cat.”
Joe Buck, a sports broadcaster, takes over as a guest
As part of the show’s rotating roster
Bialik and Richards both guest-hosted episodes of “Jeopardy!” this year.
Since Trebek’s passing, various celebrities such as LaVar Burton, Katie Couric, Aaron Rodgers, and Ken Jennings have acted as guest hosts.
In a statement, Ahuja stated
“A senior group of Sony Pictures Television executives pored through video from every episode, examined
research from various panels and focus groups, and received important feedback from our major partners and Jeopardy! fans.”
In a letter to the “Jeopardy!” crew earlier this week, Richards addressed a recent claim that he is the frontrunner to take up hosting responsibilities.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Richards state, “It is true that I approached whether I would consider hosting the show.” “I felt both humbled and honored.
There have been no final choices made, and talk with me and other prospective hosts are still ongoing.”
In the same letter, Richards addressed the controversy surrounding his time as executive producer of
“The Price is Right,”
in which he mention in a complaint filed by a model on the game show who claimed she was discriminat against because she was pregnant.
Richards said, “I want you all to know that the way my words and actions have been described in these complaints does not represent the truth of who I am or how we collaborat on The Price is Right.”
