NFL scores, news updates: The Eagles won in the NFL coaching debut of Nick Sirianni; first-round rookies looked well for the first time.
Welcome, sports lovers, to Week 1 of the NFL 2021 season!
The first NFL debut of Trevor Lawrence, whose Jacksonville Jaguars travel the road to play the Texans of Houston, will feature on this Sunday’s early slate. In the course of a visit to Washington, the Los Angeles Chargers introduced last season’s offensive and defensive rookies, Justin Herbert and Chase Youngs.
On Sunday afternoon, in perhaps the greatest match of the week, the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Cleveland Browns. “Host” the Green Bay Packers at the New Orleans Saints when Jameis Winston takes over the Sean Payton Team as a quarterback.
The Steelers are deflating the lofty hopes of the Bills.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.-ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. Well, for the BillsMafia, now could be an excellent moment to pump the brakes to make reservations for the Super Bowl.
Many of them chose the Buffalo Bills, who won the AFC not only but also Super Bowl 56, with a brilliant offense performance which led to a 23-16 loss by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Buffalo Bills are 0-1.
This Bills outfit was an inactive disaster, nothing like the 2020 edition that scored a 501-point club record. Josh Allen had been out all day long and could never get comfortable behind a very strong Steel Defense offensive line.
The Eagles will win in the NFL debut of rookie trainer Nick Sirianni.
ATLANT-ATLANTA The new head coach of the Eagles, Nick Sirianni, maintained his offensive plans for months under control, and decided for his first game as head coach to take what he termed a “competitive benefit.”
Then he released it. He released it.
In his second but first season, quarterback Jalen Hurts combined with pinpoint passing in a number of short runs. The first catch by rookie DeVonta Smith was for a touchdown. In a game that was Siraanni’s battle against Arthur Smith, another rooki head coach of the Falcons, the Eagles’ offense was too much for the Atlanta Falcons to take the victory on Sunday, 32-6.
Nominated catch of the week
The absence of preseason games may restrict the amount of time spent working on site for quarterbacks and their recipients, although several large recipients seem to be mid seasonal.
Who did Week 1’s greatest catch?
Here’s Diontae Johnson, from Pittsburgh, in the corner of the final zone against Buffalo in a touchdown throw.
Terry McLaurin in Washington did not have a chance to practice with the Taylor Heineke backup, but in their first half against the Chargers, they certainly worked magically.
Inactive for the Browns, Odell Beckham Jr.
Inactive for the late Sunday games is Brown’s large recipient, Odell Beckham Jr. The three-time Pro Bowler came back from knee surgery in November and seemed on course to play even though the injury report was formally raised as doubtful.
Another star from end-of-season surgery was considered to be well enough to begin. Saquon Barkley’s giants are officially active for their Denver opener. Since damaging the ACL and MCL in his right knee last season in week two, he’ll experience his first game action.
Heineke was hurt at the quarterback position for Washington.
This season’s Washington Football team committed themselves strongly to veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick. Nevertheless, before departing with an injury, he did not play the first half of his debut game.
In the second quarter, Fitzpatrick was struck hard by the rush edge of the Chargers’ Uchena Nwosu. Fitzpatrick has been hip-wounded by the team and won’t come back to the match.
Smith, Lance, and Chase, rookies, make an immediate impression.
Who says rookies need time to adapt to the NFL game speed? Two highly respected first-round selections nearly immediately recorded touchdowns.
The first NFL reception for the Philadelphia Eagles by Heisman trophy winner DeVonta Smith went for an eighteen-yard touchdown. It may be the first of many Crimson Tide links to Jalen Hurts, the quarterback.
Not to be overshadowed, the Bengals’ wide-ranging rookie, Joe Burrow, his college buddy at LSU, took the first NFL-touchdown catch on a stunning QB bomb. After just one reception (and three drops) in the pre-season, Chase had three receptions for 80 yards and a score.
The NFL season starts with so much intrigue.
Is Urban Meyer going to turn into another Jimmy Johnson? Other members of a range of hype-heavy trainers — Chip Kelly, Bobby Petrino, and Steve Spurrier — had huge credentials from college, only to fly flat in their NFL playbooks?
Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield and Myles Garrett weren’t even born last time, but two of the most important players on the squad who will start Sunday with a playoff re-game at Kansas City heard all about history. The Cleveland Browns had their previous re-events in 1988 and 1989.
These are just two of the interesting lines of events on the first day of the NFL season. Jarrett Bell from USA TODAY Sports looks at these subjects, as well as the possible effect of Najee Harris in Pittsburgh from his NFL notebook.

Moreover, Trey Sermon, the rookie is not active in Detroit for the San Francisco 49ers. The starter is Raheem Mostert, although a major part should be played in the third round. In addition, Wayne Gallman of the Falcons is inactive against the Eagles, and Curtis Samuel, the wide receiver from Washington, is unable to play the Chargers for today’s game.
Austin Ekeler is active on the Charger side with a hamstring issue after a lack of practice throughout the week.
