Our Kind of People’: How Does it Compare to Lee Daniels’ Other Fox Shows? (POLL).
Yaya DaCosta is establishing a name for herself as Angela Vaughn in Lee Daniels’ new Fox serial opera, Our Kind of People.
Fans of Daniels will recall that he previously executive produced the network’s Empire and Star,
but this time around, instead of concentrating on music,
Our Kind of People looks into the lives of Martha’s Vineyard’s wealthy Black enclave of Oak Bluffs.
Angela DaCosta visits the Vineyard with her aunt and daughter with the aim of expanding her Eve’s Crown black haircare company.
Angela, a transplant from Boston, is having trouble establishing herself in the elite society,
which is dominated by the Franklin and Dupont families.
Angela and her family are settling into a boarding home that her mother left to her in her will,
but there’s more to it than that.

Angela is trying to solve the mystery surrounding her mother’s history in Oak Bluffs as well as her father’s identity.
Angela has a few run-ins with the Franklin family’s heir, Leah Franklin-Dupont,
along the road (Nadine Ellis). Because of her torn familial origins, the lady who is strong in her own right looks down on Angela.
When Leah discovers that Angela’s mother wasn’t a member of high society back in the day,
but rather a family employee, she wants to keep as far away from the newcomer as possible.
When you add in financial problems at her family’s business,
which is presently managed by her father and Franklin family patriarch Teddy (Joe Morton), you have one huge mess of high-stakes drama.
However, as Angela becomes more integrated into the Oak Bluffs community, she starts to remember events from her childhood and put together key jigsaw pieces,
leading her to wonder whether her mystery father is indeed Teddy.
By the conclusion of the episode, it’s obvious that Angela will go to any length to find out, and we can’t wait to see what happens when she does.
The question we’d like to pose to our readers is where Our Kind of People ranks among Lee Daniels’ previous Fox shows. Let us know in the poll below,
and in the comments area, what do you think of the premiere.
