In a special performance, Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono pay tribute to John Lennon on his 81st birthday.
It’s your birthday, they say.
Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono paid tribute to John Lennon on his 81st birthday, which would have been on Saturday.
McCartney, 79, tweeted, “Happy Birthday thoughts for @johnlennon_Paul,” along with a black-and-white photo showing the two clutching guitars under their chins while holding hands.
Ono Lennon, the singer-88-year-old songwriter’s son, turned 46 on Saturday as well.
“Congratulations on John’s birthday! Sean, a belated happy birthday to you! You have my undying affection! Ono posted a picture of himself and his son blowing out birthday candles on Twitter, writing, “yoko.”
In addition to birthday wishes from admirers and music critics, the Central Park Twitter account posted a portrait of Yoko Ono in respect to the late performer.
“Congratulations on John Lennon’s birthday! In 1985, the Strawberry Fields Memorial in Central Park in New York City was dedicated to the legendary Beatles and peace activists. This environment was a favorite of John Lennon’s for strolls,” the park wrote on Twitter.
At the end of the week, Sean took to Instagram with a series of nine images re-creating his 6-year-old self, complete with a paper birthday crown.
On December 8, 1980, a gunman opened fire on John Lennon outside his New York City apartment building, The Dakota.
Last year, on the 40th anniversary of the band’s breakup, McCartney and former Beatle Ringo Starr both took to Twitter and shared images of themselves with their late bandmate Paul McCartney.
McCartney lamented the loss of his friend, writing, “A sad sad day but remembering my friend John with the immense joy he provided to the world.” This wonderful Scouser will always hold a special place in my heart.
In the early hours of December 8, 1980, we all had to bid John farewell. That’s what I’m curious about. Strawberry Fields Forever has been played on nearly every music station in the world at some point recently. “Peace and love,” the 81-year-old singer-songwriter wrote in a Twitter message.
