Rand Paul is retaliated against by Fauci, who accuses him of employing assaults for ‘political benefit.’
He said that the senator’s lies had resulted in death threats against him. He cited the arrest last month of a guy with an AR-15 rifle who was allegedly heading to D.C. with a ‘kill list,’ according to authorities.
On Tuesday, Anthony S. Fauci accused Sen. Rand Paul of using bogus attacks on him to raise campaign cash, which has led to threats against Fauci’s life.
Throughout the epidemic, Paul (R-Ky.) and other conservatives have cast doubt on the science behind vaccinations, masks, and other public health measures, spinning conspiracy theories about Fauci’s participation in the coronavirus’s genesis. The assaults on Fauci, who is also the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Biden’s primary medical advisor on the coronavirus, have gotten more vicious in recent months, and he has been under heightened security protection since 2020.
After Paul accused him of helping arrange a smear campaign against three conservative academics who opposed shutdown measures in 2020, Fauci asked to speak without interruption in a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing on Tuesday. However, the emails Paul cited showed Fauci just forwarding a link to a Wired article disputing claims of “herd immunity.”
Paul’s constant insults, Fauci said, were a distortion of truth, and he blamed them for inciting threats against his life. He referenced the arrest last month in Iowa of a California man who was allegedly coming to Washington with an AR-15 gun and many magazines of ammo, according to authorities. Fauci and numerous other Democratic leaders were reportedly on the man’s “kill list.”

“What happens when [Paul] goes public and accuses me of things that are entirely false,” Fauci said, “is that it kindles the crazies out there, and I get… threats against my life, harassment of my family and children with obscene phone calls because people are lying about me.”
Others, according to Fauci, have gone beyond harassment. “As some of you may know, on December 21st, a person on their way from Sacramento to Washington, D.C. was caught during a speed check in Iowa,” Fauci remarked. “And they questioned, the cops asked him where he was going, and he said he was going to assassinate Dr. Fauci in Washington, D.C.”
Kuachua Brillion Xiong, 25, was caught in Iowa with an AR-15 rifle and many magazines of ammo in his vehicle, according to a federal complaint. According to the lawsuit, Xiong said that he planned to assassinate Fauci, former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, and maybe Biden when questioned. The complaint against Xiong does not include Paul. In court, Xiong’s lawyer said that he intends to utilise the insanity defence.
Meanwhile, on Paul’s website, the anti-Fauci lies have been put to work as a fundraising technique, Fauci said before the Senate hearing Tuesday.
He pointed out that the senator’s website included a “small box that says donate here” and reads “Fire Dr. Fauci.”
“You have the option of doing $5, $10, $20, or $100,” Fauci remarked. “So, for political benefit, you’re creating a deadly pandemic.”

The criticism was dismissed by Paul, who said it was “disappointing for you to insinuate that those who dare to challenge you are somehow responsible for violent threats.” Afterward, Paul’s team sent out a mass fundraising email (subject line: “Fauci is hysterical”) and shared more than a dozen tweets and videos of their confrontation.
Paul and others have erroneously claimed Fauci is part of a conspiracy that led to the production of the coronavirus in a Chinese facility. In recent months, Fauci’s office has been besieged by viral accusations of disinformation and he and family members have suffered intimidation and security concerns. A Fox Nation personality who was a guest on Fox News recently likened Fauci to a Nazi doctor known as the “angel of death.” Right-wing figures often demand his removal, and hashtags like #FireFauci and #FauciKillsPuppies are popular on social media.

In a statement released following the hearing, Paul stated he was one of the members present at the 2017 baseball practise when Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and others were shot. According to reports, the shooter was a Bernie Sanders supporter (I-Vt.). “I never accused Senator Sanders of being responsible for the assault, and I hate Fauci skirting around the issue by inventing the notion that his opponents are the source of threats,” Paul added.
In an unusually contentious meeting, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) came out in favour of Fauci and the other scientists from the Biden administration who spoke Tuesday, without condemning Paul by name.
“I’m sure those of you who are giving testimony today know that part of what we do is perform, and some of what we do is learn. And I’ll admit that I do both from time to time. “So I’m not only in one group or the other,” Romney said. “However, I’d want to emphasise how much I — and I think the vast majority of people in our nation — like and appreciate you personally and professionally for the job you do.” You’re not politicians; you’re scientists. Nonetheless, you are subjected to the political whims of a variety of political figures. And it comes at a significant expense, which regrettably, I worry may cause people to not want to engage in supporting our government.”
“It’s disappointing and frankly unacceptable that Republican senators chose to spend a hearing with the country’s leading public health experts spreading conspiracy theories and lies about Dr. Fauci, rather than how we protect people from COVID-19,” Health and Human Services Department spokesman Ian Sams said after the hearing.
