Real Madrid thrash Mallorca with a hat-trick from Asensio and a brace from Benzema.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid thrashed Mallorca 6-1 at home in LaLiga on Wednesday, with Marco Asensio netting a hat-trick and Karim Benzema scoring twice.
Also, In the third minute, Benzema scored, and Asensio equalized in the 24th against his former team.
However, the visitors equalized minutes later thanks to a spectacular solo run and finish by forward Kang-In Lee off a pass from Matthew Hoppe of the United States.
Before the interval, Asensio restored Real’s two-goal lead before completing his first hat-trick at club level with a powerful finish from beyond the box.
In the 78th minute, Benzema scored his 200th LaLiga goal, and six minutes later, Isco sealed the sweep.
Ancelotti’s squad has also scored more goals after r six games than any other LaLiga team since Barcelona in the 2013-14 season, and Real has not scored as many goals after six games since the 1987-88 season.
Asensio made an immediate impact on Ancelotti in his first start of the season, starting as a midfielder rather than his usual forward position. “I’m very pleased, I got the opportunity to start today and I knew I had to make the most of it,” Asensio said after the game. “I’ve worked hard for this moment and I’m very happy with the victory, the goals, and to keep this team dynamic continuing.”
“It was a memorable game for me, it’s a club I have a lot of love for, it’s a club where I grew up, they’ve started the season well, and I hope the rest goes well,” the ex-Mallorca player said.
“It’s real that having put him for that position becomes which he can hurt an opposition team,” Ancelotti said of Asensio’s performance. “He did really well, it’s true that putting him in that position is where he can hurt the opposing team, between the lines he has a lot of quality, he shoots well, he combines well with the forwards.”
“He performed well, and let’s hope he can do it again next week.”
“[He demonstrated] that he can play in this position, it’s a position where he can do a lot of damage, it’s between the lines, it’s not out wide, getting the ball there with his shot is dangerous for the opponents,” Ancelotti said of Asensio’s new position.
“Of course, thinking he’s scored eight goals may make you forget he’s playing very well for the team, with the ball, assists for others, he’s a striker who doesn’t only score goals, he’s complete in every respect,” Ancelotti said of Benzema’s performance.
“We can put in [Luka] Jovic, who is doing well when he becomes weary.” Jovic has tough competition, but he’s performing well; he had opportunities today, and he performed well in Valencia.”
Real Madrid leads the table with 16 points after six games, two more than Atletico Madrid in second place.
