Ken Dorsey was promoted to offensive coordinator to replace Brian Daboll with the Buffalo Bills.
Josh Allen got what he wanted.
Ken Dorsey, the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, has been elevated to offensive coordinator, replacing the position left by now-New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll last week.
Dorsey was interested in joining Daboll as his offensive coordinator with the Giants, but he will instead remain with Allen.
For the last three seasons, Dorsey has collaborated with Allen. Dorsey was the quarterbacks coach for the Carolina Panthers from 2013 to 2017, prior to his tenure in Buffalo. Dorsey was a quarterback in the NFL from 2003 to 2008, leading the Miami Hurricanes to a national championship in 2001.
Allen had pushed for Dorsey to take over as the Bills’ offensive coordinator.
“My career really altered in terms of how I perceived the game of football when he came here three years ago,” Allen said. “Just having a person in the quarterback room who played the game, was the winningest collegiate quarterback of all time — 38-2, he’ll never let me forget it, he says it all the time — but just the way he approaches the game, he’s competitive, he’s smart, he works his ass off,” adds the coach.
For the position, the club also interviewed wide receivers coach Tee Martin of the Baltimore Ravens and receivers coach Edgar Bennett of the Las Vegas Raiders.
With the Giants, Daboll hooked up with former Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen. The same year he joined the Bills organization, Allen was picked seventh overall out of Wyoming. The Bills’ offence ranked 30th in points and yards per game in Daboll’s first season with the team, but in the previous two seasons, Buffalo had been in the top five in both yards and points per game.

In his last two seasons, Allen has completed 66.1 percent of his throws and thrown 73 touchdowns to 25 interceptions, up from 56.3 percent and 30 touchdowns to 21 interceptions in his first two seasons.In 2020, he was the MVP runner-up. Allen’s progression since entering the NFL has surprised many and served as a blueprint for other teams to follow.
Both Daboll and Dorsey were good friends of Allen’s. Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane, the Bills’ head coach and general manager, had vowed to include their quarterback in the offensive coordinator search.
Beane said, “We’d be insane not to hook him up.” “I wouldn’t want to bring anybody into the quarterback room, whether it’s a player, a coach, or anyone else, who would interfere with Josh’s ability to perform at his best.” Whatever it is, if Brian quits, we’d be foolish not to seek Josh’s advice, and, listen, we already know how highly he regards Ken Dorsey. That is important to us. However, we must carry out our due diligence. “
With offensive line coach Bobby Johnson departing for the Giants and no current quarterbacks coach to replace Dorsey, the club still has unfilled seats on the coaching staff.
