Following the release of ‘Rumors,’ Lizzo cries out against ‘fatphobic’ and ‘racist’ abuse.
Following the release of her current track, Lizzo broke down in tears after receiving a barrage of abusive comments, revealing to fans on Instagram Live that “it’s awful.”
Lizzo addressed a barrage of hate comments sent at her over the weekend in the wake of the release of her current single, crying out that some of the abuse was “fatphobic” and “racist.”
Lizzo and Cardi B released the song “Rumors” on Friday, along with a music video that has been viewed over 10 million times as of Monday afternoon.
The song’s lyrics directly address “haters,” with Lizzo asking in one verse, “Why are you wasting your time trying to break a woman down?”
The three-time Grammy winner told fans on Sunday that while she usually doesn’t mind negative remarks, she had a low tolerance for them after working so hard on her new album.
“It’s fatphobic, racist, and hurtful,” she says, “Lizzo said. “What I won’t accept is y’all doing this to Black women, especially us large Black gals, over and over again.
You simply release hatred on us when we don’t fit into the box you want us to fit into.
It’s not acceptable.”
According to footage of the Livestream released online, Lizzo noted that while she concentrates on spreading positivity through her platforms, she sometimes feels like the world “doesn’t love me back.”
