Since 2016, Stranger Things has been teaching Gen-Z to 1980s hits, and the Stranger Things season 4 soundtrack continues that tradition.
After a three-year absence, the youngsters with bad haircuts (excuse me: young people with bad haircuts) have returned to terrorize Hawkins, Indiana once again.
From David Harbour’s Jim Hopper hokily Dad-dancing to Jim Croce’s “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim” in season two to Peter Gabriel’s melancholy song of David Bowie’s “Heroes” falling as Will’s (false) corpse was being dragged from the lake in season one, the show has had a lot of notable music moments.
Netflix and the Duffer Brothers have pulled out all the stops this time, allegedly spending $30 million on each episode, a big portion of which seems to have gone into licensing music from major musicians like as the Talking Heads, the Beach Boys, and Kate Bush.
Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” is without a doubt the most memorable song on the Stranger Things season 4 soundtrack, since it appears numerous times for reasons we can’t discuss here due to spoilers. Regardless, it’s great to see one of the greatest songs ever written (really) receive some airtime on one of the world’s most popular programs.
