The Octopus’ Identity is Revealed at the Premiere of ‘The Masked Singer’: Here’s the Man Behind the Mask
Dwight Howard, the NBA’s best player, will now have more time to concentrate on bringing a championship back to Los Angeles.
On Season 6 of Fox’s “The Masked Season,” which premiered on Wednesday — the first in the two-night premiere and double elimination — the Lakers star was also the first celebrity of being unmasked.
Mother Nature, the other ousted candidate, will not be revealed until Thursday’s show.
Howard dressed up like an Octopus and performed Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti.” He stated he decided to join “Masked Singer” since it was his mother’s favourite programme.
In a departure interview with Variety, Howard said, “I loved every minute.” “Wow, it was hot and humid. I couldn’t move my head as freely as I wanted. And even though I couldn’t dance as well as I wanted, I still gave it my best, and it turned out great.”
Ken Jeong, an NBA superfan, recognised Howard right away and singled him out. “I simply believe [it’s you] based on your storey,” he added.
Basketball players were a popular option because of the Octopus’ height. Nicole Scherzinger assumed it was Shaquille O’Neal, while Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg assumed it was Dennis Rodman. Robin Thicke mistook Joel Embiid for him.
Why did you select the Octopus costume? Howard quipped, “I believe Octopus picked me.” “I believe he wanted to put his personality out there,” she says. The majority of individuals are terrified of octopuses. They’re mysterious, and they’re the kinds of animals that people don’t want to mess with when they go swimming in the water.
They do, however, like to eat them on occasion, which is bizarre. But I felt that we wanted to show them a different side of ourselves by bringing out some of our personalities. I was able to let go of my fear as I transformed into an octopus.”

Howard claimed he initially considered performing “The Masked Singer” after seeing his name show up during Season 2 as the Thingamajig, which was played by NBA player Victor Oladipo.
Many viewers speculated that it was Howard. Then, during his tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers last season, Howard said that he and his colleagues would sing a song while practising at the free-throw line, prompting others to propose that he try “Masked Singer.” Howard was on board when he got an email from the production asking about his involvement.
Howard said that he was “a little sad” to have to leave the programme so soon, but that “it gave me the confidence that I needed, and I was fine after that.” I would have liked to continue and perform more songs to finish the performance, but just completing that show was fantastic for me.”
If Howard had returned, he was prepared to perform “It’s Your Thing” as his second number. The narration for Octopus’ clue packet was as follows: “I decided to be the Octopus because the number eight is fortunate, and I’m a lucky guy!” I was successful at an early age and thought I had it all. I couldn’t help but grin. But everyone mistook my smile for a lack of seriousness.
A lot of people urged me to go. And then I collapsed. And when you’re this large, you’re going to fall hard. I had to let rid of my ego in order to start again. But, as I have said, I am a fortunate man.”
Season 6 of “The Masked Singer” has 16 competitors and, for the first time since the series started, a studio audience. Baby, Banana Split, Beach Ball, Bull, Caterpillar, Cupcake, Dalmatian, Hamster, Mallard, Mother Nature, Octopus, Pepper, Pufferfish, Queen of Hearts, and Skunk are some of the costumes available for the season.
Season 6 competitors have received a total of 85 Grammy nominations and 27 wins, as well as three Academy Award nominations, 12 Emmy nominations, 12 Razzie Award nominations, two Super Bowl appearances, with two Lifetime Achievement Awards.
This season, a “Take It Off” buzzer will enable the program’s panellists to demand that a celebrity remove their mask before the show begins if they believe they know who it is.
The show’s panellists will compete for the “Golden Ear” trophy based on their initial impressions of each masked artist (which McCarthy has won the previous two times) — and all of the panellists’ final predictions were their first impressions in week one. That implies Jeong was correct.
Tiffany Haddish was chosen by both Jeong and McCarthy Wahlberg as Mother Nature. Scherzinger first chose Chelsea Handler, but then changed her mind and chose Tracee Ellis Ross. Thicke’s initial impression was of Ross, and he decided to go with her.
The following are the other competitors and their first-night performances:
Sam Smith’s “Diamonds” is a skunk song.
“The Executive Suite” is one of his favourites.
“Coffee without cream,” he dislikes.
“I decided to be the skunk because I am drawn to duality,” says the narrator. Everything has a yin and yang to it. Even though life isn’t always black and white, there are always two sides to every tale. I’ve come to tell you about mine. Honey, I’ve seen it all over the years. It’s possible that there are certain misunderstandings about me, such as the fact that I’m fast to get into a fight.
That couldn’t be farther from the truth, honey. When you’re provoked, you don’t necessarily have to respond. For a little moment, I paused to think about my family. But, boo, I’m ready to get back out there and do what I do.”
Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Janet Jackson, and Sade are among the panel’s predictions.
Pufferfish Song: Doja Cat’s “Say So” Pufferfish Strength: “There’s nothing she can’t repair.”
“Keeping secrets” is a flaw.
“I’m looking forward to becoming the pufferfish,” says the narrator. Because I’ve had some experience protecting myself. I tried for much of my life to fit in, but I couldn’t. In science class, I was the odd guy who screwed up every experiment. Don’t even get me started on singing.
My voice had always been distinctive, and not necessarily in a positive manner. I was often mocked, so I had to learn to defend myself. That, I believe, is what made me so successful. Tonight, I want to make an impression as I have my whole life.”
Maya Rudolph, Paula Abdul, Issa Rae, and Jessica Alba are among the panel’s predictions.
Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out” is a Mother Nature song.
“Patriotic” is a strength.
“Flowers” is one of her favourite things.
“I’m thrilled to be Mother Nature since I’ve done it all,” says the narrator. I changed with the seasons. However, there is one thing I’ve never had the opportunity to do: become a mother. It took me a long time to accept it until I realised I already had a family.
Despite the fact that I am not a mother, I am fiercely protective of the people I care about. Honey, if you go after them all cray cray, you’ll get a big tsunami of humiliation! I’m going to bloom tonight. Because life is wonderful, darling.”
Aisha Tyler, Tiffany Haddish, Chelsea Handler, and Tracee Ellis Ross are among the panel’s predictions.
The Bull Song: Train Strength’s “Drops of Jupiter”: “Calm under strain.”
“Fast food,” he says.
“I grew up in a tiny, small town surrounded by cows,” says the narrator. The majority of the folks in town didn’t go anywhere, but I had greater ambitions. So I set off on a journey across the globe in search of my destiny: to become the greatest of all time.
The doors I knocked on were just shut. No, no I didn’t give up, however. After being my own employer, Hollywood and even Forbes took notice. There’s still a lot more for me to show. And I’d want to do it here.”
