EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New Orleans Saints didn’t like it when they lost five games in a row. So they took it out on the stumbling New York Jets, and everything was back to normal.
The Saints won 30-9 on Sunday, snapping their worst losing streak under Sean Payton. Alvin Kamara rushed for 120 yards and a score in his return after a four-game absence.
“This has been a difficult stretch for this squad,” quarterback Taysom Hill said after scoring two touchdowns on the ground. “Losing so many games has been a strange experience….” It’s great to achieve this victory.”

For the Saints, getting Kamara back in the backfield was crucial (6-7).
“He usually gives us some very amazing juice and enthusiasm,” Payton added.
Kamara appeared entirely fit after missing four games due to a damaged knee, carrying the ball 27 times for his sixth career 100-yard running effort. He also had four receptions for 25 yards.
“Man, just having his presence on the field and being able to pass the ball to him, that’s all I need.” “”He just accomplishes so much for this team just by being there,” Hill said.
Hill went 15 of 21 for 175 yards and 73 yards on 11 carries after injured his right middle finger in the Saints’ last game. During the game, he was smacked in the hand and stated the injury bothered him at times.
He answered, “It was fine.” “I assumed we’d be able to handle it in the end.”
The Jets (3-10) were eliminated from postseason contention when Brett Maher added three field goals and the Saints defence stymied Zach Wilson and New York’s short-handed attack. They’ve gone 11 years without making the playoffs, matching the franchise’s greatest drought, which lasted from 1970 to 1980. It’s also the NFL’s longest current slump.
Coach Robert Saleh asserted, “It’s going to flip.” “This bad phase is part of the process, but it’s not disappointing in the least since we’ve got a lot of young kids getting a lot of excellent playing experience,” he says.
Wide receivers Corey Davis (groyne) and Elijah Moore (quadriceps) were also out, as were running backs Michael Carter (high ankle sprain) and Tevin Coleman (concussion). The Jets were just 3 of 14 on third down and had only 256 total yards.
Wilson, fresh off his greatest game, missed receivers on occasion and overthrew them at others. There were also multiple drops, including three by running back Ty Johnson in the first half.
Wilson, who went 19 of 42 for 202 yards, said, “Right from the start, I’ve got to be more accurate.”
Wilson gained a first down straight away with an 18-yard scramble after failing to get one on their previous three attempts. On fourth-and-seven, he converted another with a 14-yard throw to a sliding Braxton Berrios. The drive sputtered, and Eddy Pineiro, the Jets’ third kicker in as many games, kicked a 36-yard field goal to tie the game at 3. The MetLife Stadium crowd erupted in faux shouts.
A few minutes later, Justin Hardee’s interference penalty on a Jets punt placed the Saints at their 46 to begin.
Kamara slipped a tackle attempt by Bryce Hall on his fourth consecutive rush and then zipped into the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown, giving New Orleans a 10-3 lead. On the drive, Kamara gained 35 yards on four carries.
Pineiro made a 46-yard field goal to close the first half and make it 10-6. The Jets moved down to the Saints’ 24, but two penalties on wide receiver Denzel Mims hampered the drive – illegal hands to the face and improper formation.
“Obviously, the consequences were lethal,” Saleh remarked.
The Jets went for it on fourth-and-6 from their 49 yard line with a two-score deficit, and Wilson’s ball to Keelan Cole went off the receiver’s extended hands as Marcus Williams ruined the play.
The Saints took over and Hill finished the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. With 1:07 left in the game, he capped off his day with a 44-yard touchdown sprint, the longest of his career. His teammates, on the other hand, chastised him for not slipping earlier in the game.
Hill smiled as he remarked, “I knew we needed one more first down, and you go up in the wide field and it’s third-and-long.” “I should’ve slipped.” “I’m sorry, but I don’t have anything else for you.”
INJURIES
RB for the Jets The club revealed halfway through the second quarter that Austin Walter was active but will not participate due to a non-COVID-19 sickness. DE Ronnie Blair was elevated to the starting lineup from the practise squad on Saturday, however he was inactive for the game due to a non-COVID-19 ailment.
IN MY MIND
Before the game, the Jets observed a minute of silence in memory of former wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who died Thursday night at his suburban Atlanta home at the age of 33.
In 2019, Thomas finished his ten-year NFL career with the Jets, catching 36 catches for 433 yards and a score in 11 games. On Sunday, the Jets displayed a photo of Thomas in his New York jersey with the words “In Memory of Demaryius Thomas. 1987-2021” below it.
