Tiger Woods caddie will compete in his first full-fledged PGA Tour tournament since the 2020 Masters Tournament on Thursday, after a February 2021 collision that necessitated major surgery and rehabilitation.

joe LaCava has played a role in numerous of Woods’ 82 PGA Tour victories, including the 2019 Masters Tournament, but their friendship goes deeper. Since LaCava took over as Woods’ caddie in 2011, the two have become friends; he has also been highly devoted to Tiger, refusing to caddy for other players when Tiger has been out due to injury.

Joe LaCava, who is he?
Since 2011, joe LaCava, a native of Newtown, Connecticut, has been tiger Woods‘ caddy. He started his career as a caddy in 1987, working for his cousin Ken Green, according to the Connecticut State Golf Association.
Prior to his hire, LaCava had a tumultuous relationship with Steve Williams, his caddie from 1999 until 2011. (Woods sacked Williams in 2011 after he caddied for Adam Scott at the US Open and the Open Championship.)

Woods signed LaCava as his third full-time caddy (after Fluff Cowan, his first, and Williams) in September 2011 after temporarily employing pal Bryon Bell on a temporary basis. The relationship between tiger Woods and joe did not provide instant results, with Woods sliding to 58th place in the world rankings in November 2011. From March 2013 through May 2014, the partnership grew more successful, with Woods finally returning to the top of the world.
LaCava and tiger Woods caddie have a friendship that goes beyond the golf game. LaCava has been steadfastly faithful to tiger Woods caddie, even when the latter was injured, as he did during the 2017 PGA Tour season, when he only played in four tournaments. (Though in 2021, he caddied for Fred Couples and Patrick Cantlay when Woods was recovering from a car accident.)
LaCava’s connection to Woods is evident, as his son Joe Jr. caddied for tiger Woods caddie’ son Charles Woods in the PNC Championships in 2020 and 2021. In talking about the time he requested tiger Woods to be his caddy, joe expressed his appreciation for him:

“It meant everything to me. You’ve received an email from what I believe to be the greatest player of all time, asking if you’d want to caddy for him. ‘I know I haven’t played much recently and I’m hurting a lot, but would you take a chance and work with me?’ he said. That was terrific, I thought “In March, joe told Golf Monthly. “My wife often tells me that sometimes you have to pinch yourself, and I think you have to pinch yourself because you don’t understand how fortunate you are. Again, it’s taken a lot of hard work to get to this position, but being called to caddy by Tiger caddie is the best thing ever.”
It seems to have paid off for LaCava, who was inducted into the Caddie Hall of Fame in January.
Joe LaCava caddied for whom?
LaCava rose to prominence as the caddy for Fred Couples, who has finished in the top five in each of golf’s four majors (including a win at the 1992 Masters). LaCava started caddying for Couples in 1990 and was there when he won at Augusta National in 1992. He was there for 12 of Couples’ 15 PGA Tour wins in total.
LaCava also caddied for future world No. 1 Dustin Johnson for four years before leaving the top-five-ranked golfer in the world to join Tiger Woods, who had not won in two years.
