Woods’ selection is somewhat surprising, given his chilly response to the prospect of playing in Tulsa after his final-round 78 at Augusta National.
“I will never again play a full programme; it will be limited to the major tournaments… “I’m not sure whether or not I’ll play Southern Hills ,” Woods told SkySports. “However, I look forward to St. Andrews.”
“That is something that is close and dear to my heart,” he said. Because it is my favourite golf course on the planet, I will be present for that event. But anything in between, I’m not sure.”
Both Southern Hills and St. Andrews are familiar haunts for Woods, having won the 2007 PGA Championship in Tulsa, his 13th major championship, and the 2000 Open Championship at St. Andrews — the second leg of his “Tiger Slam” and the site of his tournament record of 19 under par. In 2005, Woods won again at St. Andrews.
