Veterans Day is almost coming. Communities around Wisconsin are organizing ceremonies and festivities to recognize and thank veterans for their service.
While certain yearly activities have been altered as a result of the continuing COVID-19 outbreak, many local groups have found methods to maintain many of their traditions.

Neillsville
The annual Veterans Day service will begin at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Highground Veterans Memorial Park, W7031 Ridge Road. Kari C. Porter, a certified professional counselor and director of the La Crosse Vet Center, will speak at this year’s event. Refreshments will be available. Plover
The Plover VFW Post 10262 will perform a rifle ceremony at the Plover Veterans Memorial, 2725 Roosevelt Drive, on November 11 at 11 a.m. The American Legion Auxiliary will hold a potluck lunch at the Plover VFW, 2970 Hickory Drive, at noon. Later, from 4 to 8 p.m., Jake’s Kitchen, the post’s restaurant, will give a 20% discount on its menu pricing.
Rome
From 11 a.m. to noon on November 11, Visit Rome, WI will have its annual Veterans Day commemoration at the Spring Branch Cemetery, complete with a full honor guard. Following the ceremony, at 12:15 p.m., a takeout-only meal will be available at Rome Town Hall, 1156 Alpine Drive, Nekoosa. Veterans who are housebound in the City of Rome may request home delivery. Stevens Point (Wisconsin)
From 4 to 10 p.m. Nov. 11, District 1 Brewing Company, 200 N. Division St., will hold a Veterans Day celebration. The event is free and includes Purple Basil cuisine until 9 p.m., music, a basket raffle, and beer discounts. A part of the revenues will be given to the VFW posts in Wisconsin Rapids and Plover. A Veterans Day celebration will be place in the Dreyfus University Center Alumni Room at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point from 11 a.m. to 12 on Nov. 11. The ceremony will include the university’s ROTC color guard, a rendition of the national anthem, and statements from many speakers. Wausau
The Blood Center of Northcentral Wisconsin will hold a blood drive in celebration of Veterans Day on Nov. 11 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at VFW Burns Post 388, 212 E. Randolph St. New donations and walk-ins are also welcome. Call the Blood Center at 715-842-0761 to make a donation appointment.
Marathon County Public Library and the Marathon County Historical Society will co-host three “History Chats,” brief discussions about local historical individuals, from 12:30 to 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 4, 11, and 18. In commemoration of Veterans Day, the Historical Society will highlight the lives of three local veterans each week in November. The History Chats will be accessible on Zoom, as well as the Historical Society’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Wisconsin Rapids (Wisconsin)
A Veterans Day memory event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park, 112 Second Ave. S.
The VFW Post 2534 will offer a Veterans Day Spaghetti Dinner on Nov. 11 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Don Knuth Memorial Hall, 2711 Reddin Road. The VFW will provide an all-you-can-eat spaghetti supper with buns, salad, and dessert for $8 per ticket. Milk and coffee are also free, but if you want something stronger, there will be a cash bar with soda, beer, wine, and mixed drinks. Visit Post 2534’s Facebook page for additional details.
