WATCH: Lady A Honors The Late Kenny Rogers In A Star-Studded CBS Special
Kenny Rogers, the GRAMMY Award-winning country singer, may have passed away in 2020, but his timeless music will live on. Lady A sang an homage to the late artist during a two-hour musical special tonight.
Lady A placed their calming harmonies on full show with Rogers’ “She Believes In Me” at a star-studded, pre-taped musical event called Kenny Rogers: All In For The Gambler on Thursday (Sept. 23).
Rogers and his wife Wanda stood on the side of the stage, watching and singing along to the trio’s performance of Rogers’ song.
“She Believes In Me,” written by Steve Gibb, was released as the second single from Rogers’ album The Gambler in April 1979.
Charles Kelley of Lady A sang “We’ve Got Tonight” with Idina Menzel later in the evening.
Kenny Rogers: All In For The Gambler also included tribute performances by Idina Menzel, Lionel Richie, Little Big Town, and Reba
McEntire, who sang some of Rogers’ most famous songs, including “Lady,” “Through the Years,” “Lucille,” and more.
Dolly Parton, Rogers’ longtime friend, and duet partner came during the star-studded musical event to share some poignant
recollections with the country legend before playing a series of songs in an emotional conclusion starring Rogers himself.
Also, the two-hour performance special, produced by Blackbird Presents, was recorded in 2017 in celebration of his retirement and
celebrated the late country music legend’s life and legacy, who died away in 2020. At the time of his death, Rogers was 81 years old.
“On this amazing night, Kenny Rogers’ tremendous influence on country music was only equaled by the affection that the musicians
and fans gave Kenny,” stated executive producers Keith Wortman and Ken Levitan. “We are ecstatic to share something special with
his friends, family, and admirers all around the globe, as he will live on in our hearts forever.”
